Peppermint Mocha Meets Lean Shake

I’m not in to history as much as others but I do love a great story.  Heck, if you’re the inquisitive type, you’re in for a treat.

While sipping a peppermint mocha latte a few weeks ago I asked myself, “Self, how did the glorious combo of peppermint and mocha come about?”  Then I thought, “who cares, it tastes awesome!” However, in the spirit of great story telling, I won’t disappoint you.

As classical legend would have it, mint originated from the nymph Menthe, the daughter of the river god Cocyte.  Because Pluto loved her, his jealous wife Proserpine changed Menthe into a mint plant. Bummer. Now mocha, as American’s know it, is the combo of chocolate and coffee.  Back in the day, mid 17th century, Ethiopian coffee beans were shipping through the Yemeni port city of Mocha when they became the most popular beans in Europe.  It wasn’t until mid 19th century that Americans began combining chocolate with mocha coffee as flavoring.

So the grande convergence of peppermint and mocha?  Honestly, I feel like that one belongs to Starbucks but I cannot verify that.  When you're looking for a healthier alternative without sacrificing taste, your day is here. We’re excited to announce the addition of Lean Shake 25 Peppermint Mocha as a seasonal flavor of the popular Lean Shake 25. Dare we say, it even tastes like Santa’s elves made it.
